Lori Holmes vowed to shed pounds for health, happiness and longevity with Weightloss® — and fell in love with her physical makeover.

This summer, Lori Holmes will celebrate two personal milestones: her 25th wedding anniversary and a transformative weight loss. Not only will Lori participate in a vow renewal ceremony on the beach with her husband, but she’ll slip into the size six dress she originally wore to get married in 1993.

“Carl told me a long time ago that we’d visit Hawaii for this big occasion,” she says. “I’ve always looked forward to it, but now more than ever.”

Lori’s remarkable personal weight loss journey was jumpstarted by Weightloss® in February 2017 and, over the months, fueled by determination and support from family, friends and the team at Mirabile M.D. Beauty, Health and Wellness.

Her story began not long after the 2016 holiday season, when health issues required the Olathe caterer to undergo a medical procedure. Because of blood clots in both of her lungs, the surgery was postponed until they dissolved. Lori’s physician also encouraged her to lose weight prior to surgery for a better outcome.

That was a pivotal moment in Lori’s decision to get serious about reducing the number on the scale from 248 pounds to a healthier weight for her 5-foot-4-inch frame.

“I knew for quite some time that I needed to lose weight—knowing it and actually doing it are two very different things,” she says. “My best friend saw I was struggling and invited me to do the Weightloss program at Mirabile M.D. She started in January 2017 and was experiencing great results.”

Sensible, medically supervised weight loss
Tired of being frustrated and discouraged when the numbers on her scale didn’t move, Lori made an appointment for a complimentary consultation with the Weightloss counselors at Mirabile M.D.

She quickly discovered that the weight-loss program was very different from the countless yo-yo diets she had tried over the years.

“Weightloss is a no-nonsense, practical solution,” she says. “With other self-directed weight loss attempts, I usually lost water weight, not a true measure of losing pounds and keeping them off. My closet was full of clothes ranging in size from six to 20—I hung onto everything because I knew, sooner or later, I’d need a larger size. I liked that there’s an onsite physician,
Dr. Mirabile, who directs the program, too.”

James Mirabile, M.D., FACOG, founder of Mirabile M.D. Beauty, Health and Wellness, observes, “Lori is like so many of our Weightloss patients who need help with building a toolbox of simple, healthy eating habits for a lifetime commitment. The team here works with each patient to help determine the ideal weight loss goal—and how to keep the weight off by eating real food purchased at the grocery store, not packaged or powdered meals; ‘cardboard food’ as one of our patients call them.”

Weightloss focuses on calorie and carbohydrate intake while consuming the optimum amount of protein to preserve important muscle mass and has helped Kansas City-area patients lose more than 43,000 pounds since opening in 2010.

The program utilizes a proven combination of exclusively formulated supplements, vitamin and mineral-based injections and FDA-approved appetite suppressants (when prescribed) to enhance metabolism and manage appetite. Patients also have weekly one-on-one meetings with a Weightloss staff member—an element of accountability that keeps Lori motivated.

“A critical component to achieving weight loss is determining what works for the individual,”
Dr. Mirabile says. “It’s not a one-size-fits-all endeavor—Weightloss is customized for someone’s unique lifestyle and personal medical history.”

Authentic support, empowering experience
Once a diehard diet soda fan who consumed up to six or more cans each day, Lori lost 40 pounds by May 2017—enough to schedule her much-needed surgery. Although it was challenging to stay focused on losing weight during post-surgery recovery, she credits the Mirabile M.D. team for being her biggest cheerleaders and advocates.

“Every one of the Weightloss counselors is encouraging, especially when I thought I wasn’t losing fast enough,” Lori says. “They’re like family, including Dr. Mirabile, who help me with what works, what doesn’t and verify results. Instead of soda, I drink 120 – 150 ounces of water a day. Having my bestie going through the program at the same time was another level of inspiration.”

The educational component of Weightloss is significant for Lori, who says “the Mirabile M.D. team thoroughly answers my questions, even ones I didn’t know I have. That kind of priceless interaction doesn’t happen with an online diet that you try to work solo.”

Positive life impact
Dr. Mirabile cautions that, although Weightloss is a safe and effective way to lose, the journey isn’t perfect.

“This is real-life weight loss,” he says. “Everyone encounters a bump or two, like a medical situation, natural cravings or hitting a plateau. Weightloss is programmed to fit each individual and creates a realistic foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating.”

Lori joined a gym earlier this year and works out five to seven days a week. Her quest for health is paying off—she’s lost nearly 100 pounds. With another size to drop before she can slip into that size six dress to say “I do” in her Hawaiian beach vow renewal this July, she’s on target to reach her goal.

“They call Weightloss ‘the one that works’ and I’m a living example,” Lori says. “Even if you get off track, you push through and get back to eating clean. The Mirabile M.D. team stresses this is a no-guilt way to lose weight. I have more energy and self-confidence and feel rejuvenated.”

Lori’s closet has also experienced a makeover—she has given away most of the larger sizes to charitable organizations.

“That makes me very happy,” she says.

Dump the DIY Diet
