Facelifts have been around for decades. As medical technology has progressed, many common surgeries have been replaced by minimally invasive or non-invasive procedures, including facelifts. At Mirabile M.D., we have provided non-surgical facelifts to many men and women. From our extensive experience, we want to provide you with the pros and cons of non-surgical facelifts.

Non-Surgical vs. Surgical Facelifts

Both non-surgical and surgical facelifts result in a tighter, lifted skin appearance. Non-surgical facelifts are becoming increasingly safe, effective, and popular. Depending on the treatment option, a non-surgical facelift may combine minimally invasive and non-surgical techniques. Therefore, patients do not have to go under general anesthesia or deal with large incisions.

While surgical facelifts are procedures that require significant downtime, non-surgical facelifts are outpatient procedures, meaning there is no overnight hospitalization involved. Instead, you will be fine to go home soon after your non-surgical facelift treatment is complete.

Pros of Non-Surgical Facelifts

Non-surgical facelifts are effective in reversing signs of aging, including fine lines, deep creases, sunken cheeks, skin laxity, acne scarring, and loss of volume in the face. Like other minimally invasive procedures, non-surgical facelifts allow you to receive the procedure with minimal downtime and less pain and discomfort following the procedure. There is no general anesthesia required. Non-surgical facelifts are also less expensive than invasive alternatives.

Non-surgical facelifts are faster than surgical facelifts that require you to “go under the knife.” Most medical spas will have you come in for a consultation. When you schedule an appointment, your provider will tell you anything you should know before your non-surgical facelift.

Cons of Non-Surgical Facelifts

While there are many benefits to non-surgical facelift options, they still come with a few downsides. Non-surgical facelifts offer less dramatic results than surgical options. These treatments may also have to be repeated more frequently rather than a surgical facelift that offers long-lasting results.

Although non-surgical facelifts are less expensive per procedure, the costs can add up if you get a non-surgical facelift done frequently over many years.

Like any other medical procedure, there are side effects associated with non-surgical facelifts. However, these are minor when compared to the healing process following surgical facelifts.

Which Non-Surgical Facelift Option is Right for You?

If you are interested in a non-surgical facelift, there are various options from which you can choose. At Mirabile M.D., we offer several different non-invasive treatments that reverse the signs of aging while tightening and lifting the facial skin.

Ultherapy Facelift

Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved non-invasive facelift. This procedure uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production. Ultherapy gradually strengthens and tightens the skin in the affected area, whether on neck, chin, brow, or décolletage.

Ultherapy treatments last only about an hour. After the procedure, your skin may show signs of redness and bruising; however, these side effects should dissipate after a few hours. You may also experience slight swelling and tingling, but these symptoms are also temporary.

While Ultherapy is known as the non-surgical facelift, other solutions include Botox and Dysport and dermal fillers, all of which lift the skin while reducing signs of aging.

Botox

Botox and Dysport are both common cosmetic injectables. While there are many reasons for receiving Botox treatments, one of the most common ones is wrinkle reduction. Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators that relax the targeted muscle, smoothing the lines that become visible after repetitive expressions, such as smiling or frowning. Many people also use Botox as a preventative measure to relax the muscles that may cause wrinkles throughout the years.

Botox and Dysport provide results in about two weeks. Most patients will need treatments about every three to four months. There is no downtime associated with Botox and Dysport treatments, and sessions are quick, lasting less than an hour.

Dermal Fillers

Also cosmetic injectables, dermal fillers add volume to the face where needed. By stimulating the body’s own natural collagen production or delivering safe, effective product that mimicks what is found naturally in the body, dermal fillers are a popular anti-aging treatment. Additionally, dermal fillers can correct asymmetry and provide fuller lips. You have many different options when it comes to dermal filler products. At Mirabile M.D., our MedCosmetic team can help determine the best dermal filler for your needs.
