Medi-Weightloss® Frequently Asked Questions:
How long does the program last?
The Acute Phase of the program is the weight loss phase. You will be in this phase until you reach your goal weight, which varies for each patient. After you reach your goal weight we will move you into Short-Term Maintenance for 2 to 4 weeks and gradually increase your calorie level. The final phase is called Wellness. This is the most important phase the program, and patients can continue to come monthly for support. We will continue to work with you to help you keep the weight off.
How often do I come in for appointments and what do they include?
The initial visit is approximately 90 minutes long. In this visit you will receive an EKG, physical, labs, and the program teaching. We will ask you to come in for weekly follow-up visits (approximately 15-20 minutes). These visits are important, because this is where you’ll weigh-in, get your injections, refill your appetite suppressant and meet with one of our providers. We’ll also measure vitals and assess changes in body composition, as well as discuss successes and challenges for that week.
Are there any contracts or upfront costs?
No. Medi-Weightloss does not use contracts. Our patients pay for each weekly visit at the time of service.
Can I exercise while on the program?
Exercise is encouraged during the program. Our medical professionals will work with you to help design an exercise program that is ideal for your ability and lifestyle.
What qualifications does the staff have?
In addition to our physician, James Mirabile, M.D., our staff consists of a Nurse-Practitioner, Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists. All have been trained in nutrition, weight loss, and wellness and are experts in the field.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
Patients often lose up to 20 pounds the first month. In fact, on average patients lose 5-10 pounds the first week, and then 2-3 pounds per week thereafter.
What type of medical monitoring do you do with patients?
In addition to the initial physical, EKG, and labs, we will do additional monitoring of patients. Each week we will take vitals, and assess tolerance of the diet and medication, as well as monitor body composition to ensure that you are losing fat weight, and not lean body mass.
Will my insurance cover the cost of the program?
We do not bill insurance; however, we will provide you with an invoice which has the reimbursement codes (CPT and ICD-9 codes) if you choose to submit the claim yourself. Some insurance companies do cover physician weight loss programs. Call your insurance company to ask “if they cover a physician-supervised weight loss program” and what requirements have to be met in order to qualify for reimbursement.
What are in the injections?
We use two different supplemental injections. Both are vitamin/mineral based. The Medi-Bolic Booster contains Vitamin B12, Chromium, Methionine, Inositol, and Choline and keeps your liver running efficiently at breaking down fat for fuel as well as helps maintain energy level. The Vitamin B1/B6 injection is optional, and also helps with energy, controls cravings, and provides an overall sense of well-being.
